Nachlat Binyamin Art Fair
Don't forget to set aside some opportunities for souvenir shopping when planning your tour of Israel! The Nachlat Binyamin open-air market is a great place to purchase gifts for family and friends, as well as keepsakes to remind you of your trip.
On any Tuesday and Friday, head to one of the oldest neighborhoods in Tel Aviv, to the market which takes over Nachlat Binyamin Street. Here over 200 Israeli artists sells their wares, ranging from Judaica, jewelry, clothing, home goods and painted ceramics to unusual toys and lampshades. The artists are generally quite friendly and some are even willing to show you how they make their crafts.
Artists who sell merchandise at Nachlat Binyamin are pre-approved by a special committee. This means you can be sure that each item is handmade, original and sold by the artist himself. Since there are no middlemen, you'll get a better price at the fair than you would in an average Israeli crafts shop. Although some of the artists have been selling their crafts at the fair for many years, they constantly update their wares, and new artists are constantly joining the sellers.
Street performers entertain shoppers and their children. Look out for jugglers, clowns, fortunetellers, musicians and mimes. When you need a break from the buzzing urban chic fun, take advantage of the alternative therapy booths, where massages and reflexology treatments are available.
Nachlat Binyamin is also a great place to dine. The cafes and restaurants overlook the bustling fair, so you can enjoy the live entertainment and the crowds while you relax with a cup of coffee. From Nachlat Binyamin, walk over to the authentic and colorful Carmel Market and to the trendy and upscale stores of Shenkin Street.
